Molex, a global leader in electronic components, has launched a new high-speed and high-density Impactâ„¢ 100-Ohm backplane connector system. This innovative solution is designed for advanced applications and offers a modular package that combines performance with flexibility. The Impact connector technology allows data transfer rates up to 25 Gbps and provides an impressive signal density of 80 differential pairs per inch when configured with six pairs.

Steven Eichhorn, Product Group Manager for Molex's high-speed backplane and board-to-board connectivity, stated: "Our customers are continuously pushing for higher data rates while maintaining signal integrity. The Impact Backplane System delivers the fastest and most adaptable solution on the market. It also includes an electric cleaning connector design that meets the needs of next-generation high-speed systems."

The Impact backplane connectors are tailored for high-speed networking equipment, storage servers, and other critical applications across industries such as data and communications, medical, military, and aerospace. These connectors meet EEE 10GBASE-KR and OIF Stat Eye compliance standards, ensuring reliable end-to-end channel performance.

With a manageable 1.90 x 1.35mm grid layout, the Impact system simplifies PCB routing and reduces costs. The edge-to-edge differential pair configuration supports high bandwidth while minimizing the overall board and system footprint. Compatible pin attach options (0.39mm and 0.46mm) allow designers to optimize performance in both traditional backplane and midplane architectures.

The Impact daughter board mating interface uses a linear, staggered, two-piece contact system that reduces mating force and ensures proper ground signal sequencing without requiring multiple pin heights. This design enhances reliability and ease of use in complex systems.

The Impact Series Backplane Connector System comes in various configurations—traditional, coplanar, mezzanine, quadrature, and quadrature direct—offering unmatched versatility. The Impact Signal Module adapts to different setups, supporting 2 to 6 wire pair configurations. The Impact Power Module is available in 3 to 6 wire pair sizes and multiple configurations, with current ratings ranging from 60A to 120A.
