Adi prints your 1500 pairs with 11 plastic bottles printed into sneakers

The Verge Chinese Station reported on November 4

Last year, the German sports brand Adidas released a 3D printing concept sneaker made from marine recycling waste. Now these concept sports shoes have been put on sale. The first batch of 7000 pairs will be sold on the official website in mid-November. Each pair is priced at 200 euros (about 1,500 yuan).

This pair of shoes was designed and launched by Adidas in partnership with Parley for the Oceans. This is an environmental public interest organization focusing on marine pollution. The upper part of each pair of shoes is made of 5% recycled polyester and 95% recycled plastic. And all the rubbish comes from the ocean around Maldives. Each pair of shoes is made of approximately 11 plastic bottles. The soles, linings and shoelaces are also made from recycled materials and are quite environmentally friendly.

Although this pair of shoes is manufactured using a 3D printing process, it seems that it already has the capacity for mass production. As for how to recycle garbage into 3D printed materials, Adidas did not specifically describe it, but simply stated that "new technologies" use "marine plastic pieces" completely.

This pair of shoes is called UltraBOOST Uncaged Parley, which means it is a pair of running shoes with more environmental protection elements but belongs to the UltraBOOST series.

Although only 7,000 pairs were listed in the first batch, Adidas stated that it plans to produce more "garbage-recycling shoes" in the future. “We expect to produce more than one million pairs of sports shoes made from marine plastic waste in 2017, and the ultimate goal is to integrate the marine waste recycling system into our supply chain,” said Adidas executive Eric Liedtke. In addition to regular sports shoes, Adidas also plans to provide soccer shoes made from marine recycling waste for Bayern Munich and Real Madrid’s two world-renowned football clubs.

Cyrill Gutsch, founder of Parley for the Oceans, said: “No one can save the ocean by his own efforts. Therefore, each of us has to make our own contribution. In this way, it is integrated into the creative industry and becomes an industry. The raw materials in production, and integrating into mature business models, and then increasing consumer demand, are effective ways to protect the ocean."
