Stone Sweeping Robot Experience: On the Basic Quality of Explosive Products
Last year, Stone Technology introduced its first product under the Mijia brand—Mai House Sweeping Robot. However, this year’s new model doesn’t officially call itself the “second generation,†but instead has returned to the company's original name. This suggests that Xiaomi is not aiming for complete control over the production of its ecosystem partners, but rather wants to create an “entry point†and later support its own brand value once it matures.
Today, we're taking a closer look at the latest version of the stone sweeping robot. As one of the standout products in the Xiaomi ecosystem, it has won the hearts of many users with its excellent cost-performance ratio. Now rebranded as the "stone sweeping robot" and priced at 800 yuan, what kind of experience does it offer? Let’s dive in together.
At first glance, the design of this model looks very similar to its predecessor. It still features a white main color with red accents, maintaining a minimalist style. The essence of “the best design is no design†is clearly visible—every element serves a functional purpose without compromising user experience.
However, upon closer inspection, there are subtle differences. For example, the protruding LDS laser sensor has been moved from the edge to a position closer to the center of the top, and a pressure sensor has been added to prevent it from getting stuck during operation. Additionally, the top now has three buttons instead of two: the “recharge key,†“power button,†and a new “local cleaning key.â€
The branding on the product has also changed, now featuring the English name “Roborock†from Stone Technology.
Opening the cover reveals a larger dust bin, now with a capacity of 0.48L, thanks to the increased overall size. The bottom of the unit is designed simply, matching the front in tone and color, unlike many similar products that have a completely black bottom.
One notable change is the missing section on the bottom, specifically designed for the mopping function. Installing the mop pad is incredibly user-friendly—just place it directly into the robot when it's stationary, no need to lift the whole unit.
In actual use, due to the lack of an electronic structure on the floor, water slowly seeps through the filters onto the cloth, leading to some leakage, especially when charging. However, the mopping effect is impressive. From the water marks observed, the moisture distribution is even, and the coverage area is large enough to handle most mopping tasks effectively.
When it comes to suction power, this model boosts from 1800Pa to 2000Pa, and it supports carpet pressure mode, enhancing cleaning performance. Before and during cleaning, the robot scans the room using the LDS laser sensor at 5×360°/second, mapping the space via its self-developed SLAM algorithm and displaying it on your phone. The full room map is completed after the first run.
Users can also command the robot to clean specific areas, making it efficient for targeted cleaning. There are four cleaning modes: “Strong†and “MAX†are ideal when no one is home due to noise, while “Quiet†and “Standard†are better for everyday use.
Thanks to the addition of the mopping function, the filter can now be cleaned directly with water, making maintenance much easier and less stressful.
After testing during the National Day holiday, I found that the stone sweeping robot can handle about 90% of the cleaning tasks on its own. It effectively picks up tiny particles, pet hair, and dirt under furniture. The mopping function also removes most stains. The remaining 10% may require manual assistance, especially for larger or more stubborn messes.
One issue encountered is the tendency to get tangled in wires, which are common in most homes. The side brush can easily catch the wire, so increasing its rotation speed might help improve this.
Overall, the stone sweeping robot maintains the same high performance-to-price ratio as its predecessor. It has improved the water-washable filter, enhanced scanning capabilities, and added a user-friendly mopping function, all justifying the price increase. If you’re looking to experience smart home technology, this robot should meet most of your cleaning needs. However, for the best results, make sure to install the mop pad and empty the dust bin regularly.
