The performance of the Samsung S9+ has been released, and its powerful performance has left a deep impression on us.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 series, launched at the end of February this year, has now made its way to China. It is currently the only available model featuring the Snapdragon 845 chip that consumers can purchase. Among its many highlights, the performance of the Snapdragon 845 processor remains a key concern for many users. Ray Technology recently released the performance details of the Samsung Galaxy S9+, and its impressive capabilities left a strong impression on us. ![Samsung S9+ Performance](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/pI/YB/AF/qwcn2Afi22AAF_14s77aw854.jpg) Now, let’s take a closer look at how the phone performs in real-world gaming scenarios. **League of Legends (King of Glory)** As one of the most popular mobile games in recent years, League of Legends isn't too demanding on phone performance. Even high-end devices can run it smoothly. However, when we set the graphics to the highest level and enabled the high frame rate mode, it was still challenging to maintain a consistent 60 FPS. We used this setting to test the Galaxy S9+’s performance. In the default mode, the eight cores of the Snapdragon 845 are activated, and the game runs at over 55 FPS during most of the gameplay, providing a very smooth experience. However, in some complex scenes, the frame rate occasionally drops below 50 FPS. ![Frame Rate in Default Mode](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/pI/YB/AF/qwcn6AVH7gAAFvF5ixbPQ353.jpg) After switching to the game mode within the Samsung S9+’s settings, the frame rate improved significantly, especially in complex scenes, reaching above 50 FPS with an average close to 60 FPS. ![Improved Frame Rate](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/pI/YB/AF/qwcn6Aa0NRAAF7zOFzpYA802.jpg) ![Performance Graph](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/pI/YB/AF/qwcn-AEYxAABXbqhRXn2c180.gif) To fully utilize the phone’s capabilities, we will enable the game mode for all subsequent tests. **Wilderness Action** NetEase’s *Wilderness Action* has gained over 100 million users since its release. From previous testing, it's known to be quite demanding on GPU performance. During our test, we set the graphics quality to maximum and enabled the high frame rate mode. The Snapdragon 845 handled the game effortlessly, whether during skydiving or landing, with no lag or stutter. ![Smooth Gameplay](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/pI/YB/AF/qwcn-AMrtAAAE2G8NzUz0692.jpg) ![Gameplay Video](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/pI/YB/AF/qwcoCAI0vFAA-F7XhBzyw429.gif) However, the texture quality in *Wilderness Action* was somewhat lacking, with some surfaces appearing unrealistic and even separating from the ground from certain angles. This prevented the Galaxy S9+ from fully showcasing its performance potential. ![Texture Issues](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/pI/YB/AF/qwcoCAPeBKAAEuqcgqXN4369.jpg) **Jedi Survival: Stimulating Battlefield** Tencent’s *Jedi Survival: Stimulating Battlefield* is one of the most visually impressive mobile games on the market. Although we didn’t enable ultra-high-definition settings, we adjusted other parameters to their highest levels. From the test results, the Galaxy S9+ ran the game without any issues, delivering a smooth experience throughout. There were no noticeable frame drops. ![Game Performance](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/pI/YB/AF/qwcoGAYuaKAADs80D2pUQ012.jpg) ![Smooth Gameplay](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/pI/YB/AF/qwcoGAKFtxAADytbcs7OA897.jpg) ![Gameplay Video](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/pI/YB/AF/qwcoKACVt1ABJ4G4nOk2g051.jpg) Compared to *Wilderness Action*, the visuals and effects in *Stimulating Battlefield* were much better, allowing the Snapdragon 845 to perform more efficiently. ![Better Graphics](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/pI/YB/AF/qwcoKACHyGAAFysUaTuGA391.jpg) **NBA 2K18** As one of the most demanding Android games, NBA 2K18 serves as a good benchmark for evaluating the Snapdragon 845’s performance. We tested it at the highest settings and monitored the frame rate using GameBench. After running the game for ten minutes, the average frame rate was around 40 FPS, falling short of a perfect 60 FPS. In some complex scenes, it dropped as low as 30 FPS. ![Average Frame Rate](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/pI/YB/AF/qwcoKAVBgMAAFnbzmCHAY538.jpg) ![Frame Drops](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/pI/YB/AF/qwcoOAGYLPAAG-kHpL9Uk893.jpg) ![Gameplay Video](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/pI/YB/AF/qwcoSAd-5bABJbAH-7uvA961.gif) According to GameBench data, the GPU scheduling on the Snapdragon 845 appeared to be an issue, which may have limited the frame rate. The Adreno 630 GPU showed significant fluctuations during the test, preventing full performance from being utilized. ![GPU Load](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/pI/YB/AF/qwcoWAO5RDAALDK3bN9K0217.jpg) For comparison, we also tested a Motorola Z2 with the Snapdragon 835. Under the same conditions, it averaged just 29 FPS, with many scenes dropping below 20 FPS after a few minutes. ![Comparison with 835](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/pI/YB/AF/qwcoWAPGvvAAH4qd1wZPg392.jpg) ![Severe Frame Drops](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/pI/YB/AF/qwcoWAYl8_AAGw_u5xUVE360.jpg) While the Galaxy S9+ did not achieve a perfect 60 FPS in NBA 2K18, it still outperformed the previous generation by a large margin. Considering it’s the first Snapdragon 845 device, there’s still room for game developers to optimize further. **Summary** From the four game tests, the Galaxy S9+ demonstrated strong performance thanks to the Snapdragon 845, easily handling mainstream mobile games. While NBA 2K18 didn’t reach a perfect frame rate, it still far exceeded the performance of the previous-generation Snapdragon 835. Additionally, the Galaxy S9+ impressed with its excellent thermal management. After extended gameplay, the phone remained cool, with a maximum temperature of around 35°C—just slightly warm. In contrast, the Motorola Z2 with the Snapdragon 835 reached 40°C, feeling noticeably hot in hand. ![Thermal Performance](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/pI/YB/AF/qwcoaAUEL5AAC7ygbQV1Q589.jpg) Overall, the Galaxy S9+ truly deserves the title of the strongest Android phone currently available. If you had doubts about the Snapdragon 845’s performance, they should now be put to rest.
