Development of passenger drone/electric vehicle hybrid vehicle
On March 7th, Beijing time, reports from foreign media highlighted the growing integration of electric vehicle battery technology with drone systems. Some car manufacturers are now exploring ways to combine these technologies to create manned electric drones, aiming to ease traffic congestion in major cities. This innovative approach could revolutionize urban mobility by enabling seamless transitions between road and air travel.
Audi, in collaboration with Airbus and the renowned Italian design firm Italdesign, is developing a concept for a hybrid vehicle that can switch between driving on the ground and flying in the sky. The vehicle is designed to automatically choose the fastest and most efficient route based on real-time conditions. Airbus and Audi believe that by 2030, urban traffic will become even more challenging, and this type of multi-modal transportation system could play a key role in reducing congestion and promoting environmental sustainability.
The concept car is envisioned as an autonomous electric aircraft that can be attached to an electric vehicle, transforming it into a small, flight-capable aircraft. Users can plan their trips through a mobile app, and the system will suggest the optimal route based on factors like traffic, time, cost, and personal preferences. Once the user arrives at their destination, the vehicle automatically separates into two modules: the ground module continues driving, while the flight module returns to a charging station for the next user.
Airbus has been researching electric flight systems, including unmanned vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft. To integrate these systems with cars, they partnered with Audi and Italdesign to develop a drone-car hybrid that combines flight capabilities with electric vehicles. Their platform is built on three key components: Audi’s AI-driven traffic interaction system, Airbus’ VTOL flight module, and a future-oriented VR-based user experience platform.
Bernd Martens, Audi’s purchasing director and president of Italdesign, emphasized that the demand for diverse transportation solutions is driving innovation. He described Italdesign as a hub for radical ideas and technological experimentation, and expressed confidence in achieving a vision that could reshape urban life.
This new concept is an evolution of the “Pop.Up†prototype introduced at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, now called “Pop.Up NEXT.†It retains the original design but adds improvements, such as a larger display instead of a steering wheel. The vehicle is made of carbon fiber, measuring 2.6 meters long, 1.4 meters high, and 1.5 meters wide. Its flight system remains independent, featuring eight counter-rotating propellers powered by batteries for vertical takeoff and flight. The design still incorporates Audi’s branding, signaling a potential shift in the company’s future design language.
Optical fiber flange adapter is a device for detachable (movable) connectionbetween optical fibers, and it is a connecting component in optical fiber movableconnector. The optical fibers are connected by adapters through their internalopen sleeves to ensure the highest connection performance. In order to fix onvarious panels, a variety of fine fixing flanges are also designed. The conversionadapter can connect different types of optical fiber Patch Cord interfaces and provide connections between different end faces.
