TDK Group Introduces New Secondary Enhanced Power over Ethernet (PoE ++) Transformer

The TDK Group has launched a new EPCOS transformer designed for the latest enhanced Power over Ethernet (PoE++) standard, IEEE 802.3bt, offering up to 60W of output power. This new B82806D0060A** series comes in four models, each with different turns ratios and output voltages—3.3V, 5V, 12V, and 24V. These surface-mount transformers measure 30mm x 22mm x 11.4mm and are built to operate reliably across a wide temperature range from -40°C to +125°C. They meet RoHS compliance standards and feature electrical insulation that meets UL 1446 130 (B) requirements. Additionally, they have passed high-voltage tests of 1500 V AC at 50 Hz for one second on both primary and secondary sides without any breakdown. One standout feature of these transformers is their extremely low DC resistance, as low as 3.5 mΩ, depending on the model. This low resistance significantly boosts efficiency, making them ideal for use in active clamp forward converter topologies. The typical switching frequency for this transformer is 250 kHz, ensuring efficient and reliable operation in high-power applications. As more devices now come equipped with LAN connectivity to support seamless communication, Power over Ethernet (PoE) has become an increasingly popular solution. It allows devices to be powered through a single LAN cable, eliminating the need for separate power supplies. While many existing systems rely on dual-port outputs compliant with IEEE 802.3af (PoE) and IEEE 802.3at (PoE+), delivering 15W and 30W respectively, the new EPCOS transformers are specifically engineered to support four-port outputs under the IEEE 802.3bt (PoE++) standard, enabling higher power delivery. These transformers are well-suited for applications requiring high power, such as video surveillance systems, point-of-sale (POS) terminals, and building management systems like lighting controllers, fire alarm systems, and access control systems. Their combination of high performance, efficiency, and reliability makes them a valuable component for next-generation PoE-enabled devices. **Power over Ethernet (PoE):** A technology that enables both data transmission and power delivery over a single LAN cable, simplifying installation and reducing costs. **Main Applications:** High-load power supplies including video systems, POS systems, and building automation systems such as lighting controls, fire alarms, and access control. **Key Features and Benefits:** - Up to 60W output power - DC resistance as low as 3.5 mΩ - Wide operating temperature range - RoHS compliant - High voltage insulation and breakdown resistance - Ideal for advanced PoE++ applications
