TDK Group Introduces New Secondary Enhanced Power over Ethernet (PoE ++) Transformer

The TDK Group has launched a new EPCOS transformer designed specifically for the second generation of enhanced Power over Ethernet (PoE++) that complies with the IEEE 802.3bt standard, offering up to 60W of output power. The B82806D0060A** series features four models with varying turns ratios and output voltages: 3.3 V, 5 V, 12 V, and 24 V. These surface-mount transformers measure 30 mm x 22 mm x 11.4 mm and are built to operate reliably across a wide temperature range, from -40°C to +125°C. They meet RoHS compliance standards and provide electrical insulation in accordance with UL 1446 130 (B). Additionally, they have passed high-voltage tests—1500 V AC at 50 Hz for one second—on both primary and secondary sides without any breakdown. One of the standout features of this transformer series is its exceptionally low DC resistance, as low as 3.5 mΩ, depending on the model. This improvement significantly boosts the efficiency of the transformer, making it ideal for use in active clamp forward converter topologies. The typical switching frequency is set at 250 kHz, ensuring optimal performance in high-power applications. With the growing demand for LAN connectivity in various devices, Power over Ethernet (PoE) has become a popular solution for both data transmission and power delivery through a single cable.
