Sanhuan Group released new materials for mobile ceramic back cover
In a recent event, Sanhuan Group launched a groundbreaking conference on mobile ceramic materials titled “Breakfast Nirvana Ceramics Freshman,†unveiling its latest innovation: the “Three Rings Fire Phoenix†drilled zirconium ceramic material. This development addresses critical challenges in the production of ceramic back covers for mobile devices—specifically, strength, cost, and mass production.
During the press conference, it was revealed that the “Three Rings Fire Phoenix†ceramic material boasts exceptional mechanical properties. It features an ultra-high bending strength exceeding 1200 MPa, significantly outperforming tempered glass, which typically has a bending strength of around 552 MPa. Its fracture toughness is ten times greater than that of glass, making it more resistant to crack propagation. Additionally, its modulus of elasticity reaches up to 200 GPa, far surpassing the 76.7 GPa of tempered glass, offering superior resistance to elastic deformation. The material also has a Mohs hardness of 8–8.5, close to sapphire, which is much harder than tempered glass (5–6), making it highly durable against everyday wear and tear.
Another key advantage of this ceramic material is its excellent electrical performance. It exhibits lower dielectric loss compared to tempered glass, making it ideal for future 5G applications where signal integrity is crucial. Furthermore, the material can be manufactured in various colors, including black, solid white, and colored options, allowing for greater customization and personalization on smartphone back covers.
Sanhuan Group has successfully achieved mass production of these ceramic components, ensuring they meet the diverse requirements of mobile phone manufacturers. Over the past few years, the company has already partnered with major brands like Xiaomi, Yijia, and Essential for ceramic phone back covers, while fingerprint sensor covers have been widely adopted by OPPO, VIVO, and Huawei.
Zhang Wanzhen, Chairman of Sanhuan Group, highlighted four key advantages of ceramic materials in the context of 5G technology. First, ceramic exhibits nearly 20 times less dielectric loss than glass at high frequencies, resulting in clearer signal transmission. Second, diamond zirconia has a natural affinity with human skin, providing a more comfortable and luxurious feel. Third, zirconia ceramic can be shaped into complex forms, including unibody designs that are challenging to achieve with glass. Finally, the ceramic back cover is twice as hard as glass, making it highly scratch-resistant.
Zhang predicts that these new ceramic materials will become one of the top choices for future smartphones, opening up new opportunities for Sanhuan Group in the mobile industry. As 5G continues to evolve, the demand for advanced, durable, and high-performance materials like the “Three Rings Fire Phoenix†is set to grow, positioning Sanhuan at the forefront of this technological shift.
